1980 excerpt was on the now-defunct University of Delaware PLATO
system,
where I created it in a utility called “musimatic”, which was
written by Bill
Lynch. I did not know the title or composer of the excerpt,
other than
knowing I was not the composer; I got that information about
1986-1987,
including hearing all or part of full version on PBS on Sept. 6,
1987, by a
Lehigh Valley chamber orchestra (which was apparently from
eastern
Pennsylvania). I later played in the orchestra version with
the
Brandywine Pops, and heard it in a recording by the Boston Pops
(directed
by Arthur Fiedler). I used that recording (not having a score
in front of me)
and NoteWorthy Composer to make the full version in Jan.-Feb.
2005.
The composer? LEROY ANDERSON.
"Belle of the Ball" was among the music played in 1st half of "We Love Lucie" concert on March 5, 2008 at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, PA by Peter Nero and the Philly Pops; Lucie Arnaz appeared in 2nd half of that show.
"full version 1 step down" is provided to match the key of concert-band performances I found on youtube.
